Mr. Smarty Pants on Circumcision

Dear Smarty Pants,
I just read your meandering piece called Believer's Circumcision. You said that Roman Catholics believe that the soul of uncircumcised infants go to Limbo. Where did you come up with that one? It is unbaptized infants whose souls go to limbo.

Answer: Dear critic, you are absolutely correct about this. I meant to say unbaptized. Would you care to explain a baby's immortal soul and the doctrine of Limbo? Please use scriptures. As for meandering, I am also guilty of that. But even meandering rivers eventually reach the sea.

  1. Oh please, if there is scripture, I want to know where limbo comes into play. I was raised a Catholic, am now a baptized believer, I never ever understood. But I know my relatives are having masses said for my dad for that reason ..

  2. Neither the Bible nor non-Roman Catholic doctrine contains the word or concept of limbo. It may have been invented to comfort those who have lost children. But though I do not share this non-Biblical belief, I feel there is much comfort in the Bible doctrine of election, where infants, including those murdered through abortion, await the return of Christ and his glorious resurrection. There is no need to create such a doctrine as limbo. Infants sleep in peace until His return. I offer you my favorite scriptures about this.

While we wait for the blessed hope--the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
    Titus 2:13

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the
trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
    1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Thank you for your words on this very important subject.
