Believing Thomas

...reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. John 20:27

Thomas did as his Lord said, and he believed. So where did he earn the name "doubting Thomas"? To me, the point is that he did believe. And isn't that what matters?

I have a sympathy for people who do not believe easily, who want more evidence. Maybe because I was once one. Could it be that those who are hard to convince turn out to be the strongest and most steadfast believers? Whether they do or not (I think they do) Jesus does not turn away from them. He gives them the proof they need.

In these latter days, God has given us evidence that cannot be disputed. May I be excused if I think the discovery of Noah's Ark (not a little boat, but a gigantic ship), and Mount Sinai with its attendant artifacts, is irrefutable proof? Hard to believe holdouts, including many pastors, now have no excuse for their dismissal, or even mocking, viewpoints.

Blessed are those who believe without seeing. But those who ask for proof shall also be satisfied.
