The B Team

The world famous TV program The A Team now has a rival, at least in my mind and heart. Imagine a diverse group of people coming together to grow food in small gardening projects. Not just the familiar corn and tomatoes, but crops like millet, sorghum, and amaranth.

Not a thing wrong with traditional gardening. I grew up with a wonderful garden in my long back yard. At five, it was a place of magic to me and remains in my sweet memories.

But the proposed B Team garden will feature food plants that lead in two qualities--extremely high nutrition, and great drought resistance. They are feeding people in places as diverse as Africa and India and saving lives. They have more food value than wheat, rice, soybeans, or corn. They do not need to be watered.

Can people with severe physical problems, newly released prisoners, poor city people--folks like that--work together to grow these God-given miracle plants? The project is largely in the dream stage. The dreamer is an incompetent person, who does almost nothing well. He can, however, gather information, seeds, and a few useful tools for those who really do things. He can pray for the team.

As the leader of the old TV show used to say, "I love it when a good plan comes together!"
