Not What Should be, or Could be, but What Will Be

One of the penalties--some say insights--gathered from being old, is the rejection of speculation. You hear ideas proposed that are just the opposite of what the Bible says is going to take place. Case closed. At least that is how old cats feel. I do not say this with a sigh of resignation, but with rejoicing at the wonderful works of God.

His works are not proposals, not what we could accomplish if we all got together and did something. They are going to happen no matter how hard we work, or how we strive to oppose them.

As for us all getting together, there was the attempt to do just that, way back in Genesis 11:9. Therefore is the name of it called Babel, because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

But can't we finally do it? Can't we finally unite with one purpose to do some great thing? Yes, we can--at least many will get together, but even then will fail in their purpose. What began in Genesis will end in the book of Revelation.

And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. Revelation 20:8-9

First confusion of language and scattering, then finally, the destruction of all those who oppose God. From the first book to the last, human effort is nullified by God.
